Indiana May Lose Gen Con, a $50 Million Economic Impact, Due to “Religious Freedom” Law

There are times when we’re really ashamed to be based in Indiana, and those times have come more frequently than they used to, and now there’s this (via the Indy Star):

The organizers of Gen Con, the city’s largest convention in attendance and economic impact, are threatening to move the event elsewhere if Gov. Mike Pence signs controversial religious freedom legislation that could allow business owners to refuse services to same-sex couples.

One of the largest gaming conventions, and one of the best places to play D&D or Pathfinder (I’ve both played and run games at GenCon for some years now), is considering leaving our state, and taking the 50 million dollars in revenue it generates somewhere else.  It would be a huge disappointment to myself and many other Hoosier gamers if we lost this convention, but I support their efforts to ensure all of their attendees will be treated with respect by their host communities.

GLRL Episode 5: “Meet the Feebles” (1989) with Aaron Buell

GreenLightRedLightLogo2Big

It’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves at one point or another: What if Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings, decided to do an acid head version of The Muppet Show as a movie?  Well, it turns out the answer was waiting for us all along in the form of 1989’s Meet the Feebles!  Aaron Buell (2 Guys, a Girl, and a Goblin) joins us as we watch a movie featuring a Kermit the Frog lookalike strung out on heroin, throwing knives at a hedgehog and having Deer Hunter style Vietnam flashbacks, a morbidly obese hippo with a food addiction, a puppet fly that eats feces from toilet, a fox who sings about sodomy, and much more!

GLRL Episode 4: “Starcrash” (1978) with Lauren Wood

GreenLightRedLightLogo2Big

After the disappointment of S. Darko, we couldn’t have been more pleased with the awesome spectacle of 1970’s Italian film making that is Starcrash.  Caroline Munro as Stella Star jiggles her way through 94 minutes of pure camp, complimented by the immensely talented Christopher Plummer, and a pre-Knight Rider David Hasselhoff.  Made a scant 18 months after Star Wars, Starcrash is a blatant attempt to cash in on Lucas’ success.  This movie features all the things you loved about Star Wars, just done on a much lower budget and with less skill: Droids!…Sort of  Not quite light sabers!  Man torpedoes!  We’re joined by Lauren Wood to talk about all this and more in this Italian gem.
